Description: Hawaii Groundwater Aquifers (DOH Version), Revised version (June 2011) of DOH aquifer shapefile. The attribute data represent aquifer type codes and status codes that describe an aquifer's geology and status (ie. development stage, utility, salinity, uniqueness, and vulnerability). (Note: DLNR maintains another version of aquifers, which is more administrative in nature, and which has different boundaries than the DOH version, which is more resource-oriented in nature). Hand-digitized and coded by DOH Groundwater Protection Program, Environmental Planning Office from 1:24,000 scale maps provided by John F. Mink and L. Stephen Lau of the University of Hawaii Water Resources Research Center, 1987. Reference: "Aquifer Identification and Classification for O`ahu: Groundwater Protection Strategy for Hawai`i" November 1987. Note: May 2024 - Hawaii Statewide GIS Program staff removed extraneous fields that had been added as part of a 2016 GIS database conversion and were no longer needed.
